What We Do
We collaborate with and support policy contacts, policy managers, and responsible offices across campus to develop, update, and standardize policies in the UW–Madison policy library. Since its inception, our Policy Library team has partnered with campus leadership and other campus stakeholders to improve and standardize more than 300 policies.
Throughout the policy lifecycle, we:
- Provide consultation and advice to campus policy contacts, policy managers, and approval authorities across the institution.
- Conduct in-depth policy research to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Leveraging Our Unique Perspective
The breadth and scope of our work provide us with a unique, high-level perspective, enabling us to review policies comprehensively. This vantage point allows us to propose changes, eliminate redundancies and inconsistencies, and improve equity and accessibility due to our understanding the full policy landscape across the university.
How We Can Help
We collaborate with you to determine if a new policy is needed or an existing policy requires revision.
We guide your team through the policy development, review, and approval process.
We review and suggest edits to both new and existing policies to ensure they are up-to-date, equitable, accessible, and aligned with the university’s mission.

What Our Clients Are Saying
The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) had 23 separate policies, which, with the help of the Office of Strategic Consulting, we were able to consolidate into a single updated policy. The Office of Strategic Consulting provided instrumental support at each stage of policy review, consolidation, and retirement. The result of that process is a more concise, consistent, easy-to-find, and easy-to-maintain policy that enables safety and compliance for the UW-Madison research community.
